Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)

Recent evidence of our group demonstrate that Octodon degus could represent a new natural model for NAFLD by high fat diet administration. The individuals develop liver steatosis and fibrosis within a time of 1 month.

Octodon degus as pre-clinical model of NAFLD

Lipidic biomarkers altered in blood including total cholesterol, HDL and LDL.
Hepatic biomarkers altered in blood including alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT).
Liver steatosis confirmed by histology (hematoxylin eosin staining).
Liver fibrosis confirmed by histology (masson's trichrome staining).
Liver gene expression analysis demonstrate differentially expressed genes of the lipid and inflammatory metabolism including FABP1, PPARA and TNFA.
